Mario boots? Let’s-a go!

In celebration of Mario Day and with The Super Mario Bros. Movie around the corner, Red Wing Shoes has launched a collaboration with Nintendo, featuring boots inspired by the iconic plumber himself.

Who doesn’t want to lace up their shoes, button their overalls, and deliver the iconic line: “It’s-a Me, Mario!”

The leather boots also feature “mushroom-based, mycelium heel pads” for a true footwear power-up. Very on-brand.

Well, for now, it’s just a prototype on display at Rockefeller Center in New York. You can visit it yourself now through the end of April.

According to a company release, Red Wing worked with the film’s creative team “to translate every on-screen pixel into a real-life stitch.” Watch the behind-the-scenes teaser here:

You can’t get these boots for yourself quite yet, but you can grab Joel’s jacket from The Last Of Us.

If the boots ever hit retail shelves, we can’t wait to see someone rock the combo.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie Hits Theaters on April 5

The final trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie just dropped, too. Fans are eager to see exactly how this adaptation handles the double jump from game consoles to the big screen. The film stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong.

TL;DR on Mario

Nintendo introduced us to the iconic video game character in 1981, first appearing in the arcade game Donkey Kong as “Jumpman,” believe it or not. Of course, nowadays most people know him as the star of the Super Mario Bros. series and spinoffs like Mario Kart, Super, Smash Bros., Paper Mario, Mario Tennis, and more than we can list here. He’s even the subject of a special version of Monopoly.
